Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to common questions about our stargazing tours and astronomy programs.

What should I bring to a stargazing event?

We recommend warm clothing, a red-light torch to preserve night vision, and a blanket or chair. Telescopes and binoculars are provided, but you are welcome to bring your own.

Are your tours suitable for children?

Yes, our educational programs are designed for all ages. We offer family-friendly sessions with interactive activities and simplified explanations of the night sky.

What happens if the weather is bad?

We monitor forecasts closely. If cloud cover or rain prevents viewing, we reschedule your booking at no extra cost or offer a full refund.

Do I need prior astronomy knowledge?

Not at all. Our guides tailor the experience to your level, from complete beginners to seasoned enthusiasts. Each session includes a brief orientation before observing.

How far in advance should I book?

We suggest booking at least two weeks ahead, especially during peak season (May–August). Last-minute bookings are possible subject to availability.

Terms & Clarifications

1. Booking & Cancellation

All stargazing tours and event bookings are subject to a minimum of 72 hours’ notice for cancellation. Refunds are processed within 14 business days, minus a 5% processing fee. NovaStralis reserves the right to reschedule any program due to adverse weather or astronomical conditions without penalty.

2. Liability & Safety

Participants acknowledge that outdoor astronomy activities involve uneven terrain, low light, and remote locations. NovaStralis provides safety briefings and equipment, but is not liable for personal injury or loss of property. Minors must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times.

3. Equipment & Usage

Telescopes, binoculars, and other viewing instruments supplied by NovaStralis remain the property of the company. Any damage caused by misuse or negligence will be charged at replacement cost. Guests are welcome to bring personal equipment, but must notify coordinators in advance.

4. Photography & Media

NovaStralis may capture photographs and video during events for promotional and educational purposes. Attendees who do not wish to be featured must inform staff in writing prior to the event. Personal photography is encouraged, but the use of flash or artificial lighting near telescopes is prohibited.

5. Program Changes & Force Majeure

While NovaStralis strives to deliver the advertised experience, itineraries may be modified due to celestial events, weather, or operational constraints. In cases of force majeure — including natural disasters, power outages, or government restrictions — no refunds or exchanges will be offered beyond the rescheduling of services.

Why NovaStralis

Dark-Sky Access

We hold permits for private reserves in the Karoo and Sutherland region, where light pollution is near zero. You see the Milky Way as it truly is.

Expert-Led Sessions

Each outing is guided by a qualified astronomer or astrophotographer. You learn to identify constellations, planets, and deep-sky objects with confidence.

Telescope & Gear Included

No equipment? No problem. We provide Dobsonian and Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes, binoculars, and red-light torches for every participant.

Weather-Backed Guarantee

If clouds roll in, we reschedule your session at no cost. Our coordinators monitor satellite data and local conditions up to the hour.

Cultural & Scientific Context

Every program weaves in indigenous star lore alongside modern astronomy. You leave with a richer understanding of the southern sky.

Small-Group Intimacy

We cap groups at 12 people per session. That means more time at the eyepiece, quieter surroundings, and direct interaction with your guide.
